Skye Conway raw vegan interview
1. Can you tell us about your personal journey and what led you to adopt a raw vegan lifestyle?
My name is Skye Conway, and I was unwell for 32 years, spending 25 of those years bedridden. I was diagnosed with numerous conditions, including viral infections, congenital issues, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, hormonal imbalances, blood protein disorders, tachycardia, POTS, mental health challenges, anemia, and alcohol dependency—which resulted in liver damage—among other medical problems.
I underwent more than 60 surgeries and procedures, was prescribed countless medications, and relied on caregivers for most of my adult life.
However, everything changed 3.5 years ago when I discovered a raw, living food diet. Since then, I’ve healed from all my chronic medical conditions, moved out of my family home, bought my first house, started working, and now do Pilates 4–5 times a week.
I swim in the ocean year-round, launched two businesses, created the Roar website, hosted podcasts, wrote an eBook, became a Raw Foods Health Coach, and helped others—who were seriously unwell—regain their health through raw foods.
2. What changes have you experienced in your health and overall well-being since transitioning to a raw food diet?
Everything changed! I no longer have multiple organ issues, chronic fatigue, POTS, or MCAS-related problems. I now have an abundance of energy, and my mental health is incredible. I’m a much happier person.
3. What inspired you to start sharing your raw vegan journey and recipes on social media?
When something saves your life, you feel a responsibility to share it. I want others to heal and feel as good as I do.
4. What are some common challenges people face when switching to a raw vegan diet, and how do you help them overcome those obstacles?
Mindset and environment are two major hurdles. When people have eaten and lived a certain way for 30–40 years, it’s often difficult for them to shift their mindset toward raw foods.
The best way to overcome this is to remind yourself daily of why you eat raw. Most people who turn to this lifestyle are quite unwell without it, and it’s crucial to remember that when your mind tempts you to go back to old habits.
Environmental factors also play a role. When you walk down the street, you’re often tempted by the smell of coffee or fresh bread, or by signs advertising foods you no longer consume.
Again, it’s vital to stay focused on why you’re choosing a raw vegan lifestyle, to make sure you eat enough to avoid cravings, and to find ways to fall in love with this way of living.
5. How do you create recipes that are both nourishing and enjoyable, especially for people new to this lifestyle?
I base all my recipes on cooked meals that are simple and that I love. I substitute cooked ingredients with similar raw alternatives. Raw foods are incredibly nutrient-dense, so I never worry about whether a dish is nutritious—it always is.
6. Can you share a success story or a powerful moment where someone benefited from following your advice or guidance?
As a health coach, I’ve helped many individuals completely transform their lives. But the most powerful success stories are when people reach out to me on YouTube or Instagram to say they saw my story, started eating raw foods, and healed themselves.
When a personal tragedy inspires someone else to reclaim their health, I feel that my trauma has found a purpose.
7. How do you use platforms like Instagram to educate, connect, and inspire others toward healthier living?
I never tell people what they should do or what’s right or wrong. I simply share my story and what I’ve learned. There’s so much information out there, and I believe the most valuable thing I can offer is my personal experience—so that others can take what resonates and apply it to their own journeys.
8. What advice would you give to someone who is curious about raw veganism but doesn’t know where to begin?
I would suggest starting slowly by incorporating raw foods you already enjoy into your meals. The more you enjoy the foods and the journey, the more likely you are to stick with a raw food lifestyle.
Thank You, Skye!
